WORCESTER, Mass. - State representative David LeBoeuf took to social media on Thursday to offer an apology following his arrest for DUI on Tuesday night.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, LeBoeuf, 32, provided two breath samples that registered a blood alcohol content of 0.329 and 0.317. The legal limit is .08.
"I am deeply sorry for my egregious lapse in judgment. I am thankful there were no injuries and recognize the pain I have caused my family, friends, and community. I am not making excuses and will work extensively to rebuild people's trust," LeBoeuf posted on Twitter.
"I struggle with addiction and am committed to getting the treatment necessary so that I can be my best self again," LeBoeuf continued. "I ask that you respect my family's privacy so I can work on my recovery and continue to provide services to my district. I've tried to manage my sobriety on my own, and this is a desperate wake-up call that I need further support."
Police received two calls from motorists before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night reporting an erratic operator in a black SUV on I-93 South in Milton.
According to police, motorists reported the vehicle could not stay within marked lanes. A caller could provide LeBoeuf’s license plate. One caller reported LeBoeuf’s 2014 Ford Escape exited I-93 onto Rt. 3 South and continued on the Burgin Parkway in Quincy.
The SUV came to a stop on the Burgin and appeared to be disabled and smoking, prior to the Adams T station, police said. When troopers approached the vehicle, they noted a strong odor of alcohol on LeBoeuf and had to help him exit the vehicle. LeBoeuf could not follow instructions for field sobriety tests and was unsteady on his feet. They placed him under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol.
Troopers found nine empty nip bottles in the vehicle's rear and two cans of wine in the front cup holders, one empty and the other half full. The vehicle’s right front tire was missing, and the rim had sustained damage from grinding on the pavement. They towed the vehicle from the scene.
Police transported LeBouef to the State Police-South Boston Barracks, where he was booked on charges of OUI-Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Marked Lanes Violation. He agreed to submit to a chemical breath test and provided two breath samples. LeBoeuf was arraigned on Wednesday.
