PITTSFIELD, Mass. - A Pittsfield police department internal review has cleared two officers of wrongdoing in the shooting death of Miguel Estrella last month.

The investigation found responding officers Christopher Coffey and Nicholas Sondrini did not violate the department’s policies.

The report states Officer Coffey arrived at the scene first and saw Estrella was armed with a knife and presented a “deadly threat’’ to him and another woman.

The report also states Estrella began advancing towards the officers and both deployed tasers, which had a minimal effect.

Officer Sondrini fired two shots, killing Estrella.

In a statement, the department called the outcome “tragic” and extended its “sincere condolences’’ to Estrella’s friends and family.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s office is conducting its own separate investigation into the shooting, which is still ongoing.
