WORCESTER, Mass.  - It’s springtime and two organizations are helping local seniors clean out.

AARP and the Central Massachusetts Agency on Aging teamed up with the Worcester Senior Center to host a Shred Day.

Seniors there are getting their documents and paperwork with personal information professionally shredded for free. 

Organizers said seniors are at risk for scams.and destroying private documents helps keep their identity safe.

“You start getting older, you want to make sure you can still advocate for yourself, you want to make sure that you have, you know, you’re as well informed as possible and you don’t feel taken advantage of, and this is a great way,” Amber Krasinski, director of marketing for CMAA, said. “People don’t realize that throwing away that credit card bill, you know, and having all your information on there, that’s really dangerous for you to have in terms of your safety.”

Seniors will have another chance to get rid of their personal paperwork at a second Shred Day on May 2.
