WORCESTER, Mass. -There was only one sign left at Worcester Regional Airport Tuesday saying “Masks Required.” Masks are now for optional for travelers and airline employees across the country in airports and on flights.

“It’s good news for me,” Adrian Goode said. “I’m all for it.”

Goode was excited to hear the news. He travels a lot back and forth to college.

“I love to see it. A little more breathability but also just getting back to normal is a big thing,” Goode said. “When I can get no mask on, I definitely like it.”

Other travelers were still unsure about what to do and packed masks, just in case.

“We brought masks with us. We were going to put them on if we needed,” Robert Langlais, who was flying to JFK International in New York, said. “But I guess we were all set.”

Most travelers said it’s refreshing to check in face to face without a mask, but for the plan itself, they are going to put masks back on when they board.

“It’s confined. You can’t really trust anyone but yourself,” Susan Burke, who was waiting with her sister at the airport, said.

The thought of flying without a mask still scared some travelers.

“I don’t know. All the people who haven’t had the vaccination shots,” Langlais said. “How do you tell?”

No matter where they are, some people still want to keep them on in public spaces as an extra layer of protection.

“Part of what I do is teach young kids, so I just think it’s better,” Sergio Pallottelli, who also was flying to JFK, said. “I haven’t been sick in three years since we were wearing masks.”

Since masking up is in the hands of every traveler, most people said they hope others stay home if they’re sick.

“It’s people’s preference. These are everyone’s rights to decide,” Burke said. “You do take that chance spreading something if you are sick.”
