Hopkinton, Mass. — Tens of thousands of people begin the Boston Marathon in Hopkinton every year. With a motto of "It all starts here," the town is excited to welcome runners and spectators from around the world again.

Planning for the marathon occurs almost year-round and ramps up significantly in the weeks before Marathon Monday. The town says it's a team effort, involving many of Hopkinton's municipal departments, boards and committees to ensure the start of the race is smooth and efficient.

"I wanna welcome our runners, their families, and the beautiful spectators to this gorgeous community in Hopkinton — where it all starts," said Town Manager Norman Khumalo.

Hopkinton said the marathon has a major impact on the community, raising around $300,000 for local charities, sports and a scholarship program through the Marathon Fund Committee.
