WORCESTER, Mass. — Members of the Worcester Police Department are being honored for the work they've done on the job and keeping the community safe.

Worcester city leaders and the Worcester Police Department held a ceremony to recognize officers for their accomplishments and work over the last few years.

From 2018 to early 2020, officers saved 13 lives and responded to hundreds of calls. More than 20 officers were recognized.

"Very proud of the department for all we've done over the last couple of years,” Chief Steven Sargent said. “I mean, there's been some trying times between COVID, obviously Manny passing and it's a great time to get together with their families. Their families can see that we do, as a city, and certainly as a department, acknowledge and respect all they do every single day."

The honors given out Friday at Worcester Technical High School are the highest awards officers in the Worcester Police Department can receive.
