WORCESTER, Mass. - A Worcester organization is continuing the conversation about mental health on college campuses.

Kiva Centers in Worcester hosted state and local leaders on Friday to talk about suicide among college students.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute has reported multiple suicides this school year.

Kiva Centers said they’re working towards actively preventing suicide, starting with the school system. They said it starts with changing how communities and colleges approach the topic.

“We hope that they come away with the fact that suicide should not be a taboo conversation and that there are many things we can tangibly do to prevent suicide and anti-oppression approaches, focusing on the widespread nature of trauma and how it is both directly and indirectly felt,” Kiva Centers COO, Vesper Moore, said.

“We are also hoping that people can concentrate on the fact that it takes a community healing approach to actually engage in these conversations around suicide and build a fabric of our society that our lives to indeed have value,” Moore added.

Kiva Centers will offer suicide prevention training and informed peer support on local college campuses.
