The Wind Tiki Chinese food restaurant in Webster has been heavily damaged by a three-alarm fire.

Heavy flames and smoke were seen shooting from the roof of the building on Thompson Road. Crews arrived around 2 a.m. Friday.

There was nobody in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries reported. Crews were still dealing with hotspots as of late Friday morning.

The fire department said the building is a total loss and the age and unique design of the building made the fire difficult to battle.

"We determined there was nobody inside, we pulled everybody back out because we got met with a large volume of fire and heat and we just went to a defensive operation. This has been remodeled probably at least three times, so that's what happened," Webster Deputy Fire Chief Chris Jolda said. "We had void spaces and so forth that we just couldn't get to. This whole exterior, that's all just for show. We opened it up to put water in, doesn't go anywhere. It's just a solid wall behind it."

The state fire marshall and investigators from the state police fire and explosion investigation unit were on scene. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
