WORCESTER, Mass. - State Senator Harriette Chandler was honored at the Worcester Public Library’s Legislative Breakfast on Friday morning.

Mayor Joe Petty read a proclamation making March 11, 2022 officially “Senator Harriette Chandler Day” in Worcester.

Chandler was first elected as a state Senator in 2001, but won't be seeking re-election when her term ends in December.

Spectrum News 1 caught up with Chandler on Friday who declined to comment specifically on who should fill her Senate seat, with Petty and YWCA executive director Robyn Kennedy already announcing their candidacy for her seat.

“No comment because the voters of Worcester will decide who wins this race,” Chandler said. “I think that the voters of Worcester will elect somebody who will go above and beyond what I've been able to do. Maybe I've laid the foundation, but the next steps are theirs to take."

Chandler also received a signed citation from Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, as well as a gold card to the Worcester Public Library.
