WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Green Corps is ramping up their efforts to get the city streets clean.

Coordinator Miranda Hotham said as the snow melts, the amount of trash on streets is revealed. They’re targeting areas including Millbury Street/Green Island, Main South and Pleasant Street.

At the end of March, they will bring on two youth workers and by summer will have a full staff of 20.

Hotham said this is an issue that affects all Worcester residents and there are basic steps you can take to help alleviate the problem.

“With the spring weather, there's a lot of wind and so when you put your recycling out the night before there's a high likelihood that it's gonna blow all over the street,” Hotham said. “So it's really important for the citizens to put their recycling out early in the morning instead of late at night.”

“Trash in the city is something that I think everybody sees, everybody's identified it as a problem, and so everybody has a role to play in the solution and everybody can contribute to the Green Corps solving this,” Hotham added.

Since July, the Worcester Green Corps has covered more than 52 miles over 195 streets in the city, collecting almost 7,400 pounds of trash.
