MASS. - A Massachusetts State Police trooper died after a crash with a tractor trailer on I-93 in Stoneham overnight Thursday.
A tanker truck carrying about 10,000 gallons of gasoline struck 34-year-old Trooper Tamar Bucci as she tried to pull her cruiser over to help a car in the breakdown lane around 11:45 p.m. last night.
State Police said the force of the impact pushed Bucci's cruiser off of the roadway. Two people passing by stopped and pulled Trooper Bucci from the heavily damaged cruiser.
A Stoneham police officer performed emergency first aid and CPR until EMS arrived.
They rushed Trooper Bucci to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the State Police, Trooper Bucci was assigned to the State Police-Medford barracks in February. She was previously assigned to the Brookfield Barracks.
Trooper Bucci graduated as a member of the 85th Recruit Training Troop on May 6, 2020. Prior to joining the State Police, she worked in security at Encore Casino and as a personal trainer. She was a graduate of Middlesex Community College and Andover High School.
Trooper Bucci is survived by her mother, father, two sisters, a step-sister, and a step-brother.
The driver of the tanker truck is a Methuen man. Police said he's been cooperative and was interviewed by Troopers early Friday morning. The truck is owned by the PJ Murphy company. As of Friday morning, no charges have been filed.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The woman who was in the disabled motor vehicle that Trooper Bucci was trying to help was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
On Friday morning, Gov. Charlie Baker ordered all flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of Trooper Bucci.
