WORCESTER, Mass. - Three bridge underpasses in downtown Worcester and the Canal District are getting specialty accent “art” lighting installed.
The LED up-lights are being installed in three bridge underpasses on Green Street, Franklin Street, and Madison Street. The lights will have a full range of colors and the ability to control every individual light element.
Installation of the LED up-lights at the underpass on Green Street has already started and will be completed in mid-March.
The project is highlighted in part of City Manager Ed Augustus’ agenda prepared for Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. In the report, Augustus said the city has been working to improve walkability, create safe environments, and install public.
The Executive Office of Economic Development is finding funding for the Franklin Street and Madison Street projects. The total project costs are roughly $250,000.
The EOED is also working to identify additional bridge underpasses that might be improved with a lighting installation, including the railroad bridge at the intersection of Southbridge Street and Jackson Street.
