WORCESTER, Mass. - Police officers will be running from Worcester all the way to Washington, D.C. in May.
The officers will be running in honor of fallen Worcester Police officer Manny Familia. His name will be placed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall during Police Week in Washington.
Familia died in June 2021 while attempting to save 14-year-old Troy Love who was drowning in Green Hill Pond. Both Familia and Love died.
Organizers of Run WPD are hosting the City View 5K road race on May 1 to raise money for their run to Washington. The race will start and end at Pepe’s Italian Restaurant on Shrewsbury Street.
Any additional proceeds from the race will go towards essential water safety equipment for the department.
