WORCESTER, Mass. - As residents continue to dig out from this weekend’s storm, City Manager Ed Augustus said Worcester’s roads and sidewalks are in good shape.

Nearly 400 cars had to be towed this weekend so plows could properly clear snow off streets.

Augustus said they cleared many sidewalks for kids to get to school. Residents must clear sidewalks in Worcester 10 hours after the snow stops or they could face a fine.

“(Department of Public Works) Commissioner (Jay) Fink and I Sunday morning took a ride around the city. We particularly rode around schools and park sites to make sure they are clean and ready for kids to come back to school on time,” Augustus said in an interview on Monday. “Everyone did a good job getting sidewalks cleared in a pretty expeditious fashion.”

Augustus said the city budgets about $6 million every year for snow removal.  He said the city is still in good shape budget wise and should have enough to deal with whatever the rest of the season has in store.
