WORCESTER, Mass. - With heavy winds and snow expected overnight, National Grid is warning customers of power outages this weekend.

In Worcester, dozens of crews are ready to go. The utility company said they’ve been monitoring this weekend’s significant weather event for several days.

Large amounts of snow, ice and wind raise concern for power lines potentially being knocked down.

National Grid has 3,600 crews prepared for New England with over 2,700  in Massachusetts. They’ve also called in crews from as far as Pennsylvania and Virginia.

“With these kinds of weather events, our team is ready to come in when other people are headed back to their homes. It’s standard operating procedure for us. This is what we do,” National Grid spokesperson Bob Kievra said. “We’re eager to make sure that our customer and communities have power when it’s safe to do so.”

National Grid advises homeowners to stay connected online by logging in and registering on their website.

If you do head out after the storm, they said don’t approach downed power lines, assume they are live and call either National Grid or your local public safety.
