WORCESTER, Mass. - The newly-elected Worcester City Council will be fully remote for their first official meeting this week.
In December, the city announced all city council, school committee and sub-committee meetings will be remote for January.
Worcester welcomes some new faces with Etel Haxhiaj and Thu Nguyen joining the city council.
Mayor Joseph Petty says there will be a focus on pushing the agenda forward on economic development during his sixth term, as well as public health and mental health within schools and communities.
"I feel, with this council, it's going to get a lot done,” Petty said. “It's a different type of council. I think the average age has gone down tremendously of the school committee, like 20 years I think with this new election, even the city council average age. So we have people who have been elected and I expect a lot from them. We're going to move the city forward."
The city council will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The public will still be allowed to provide comments in the remote virtual meetings.
