WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team was on scene following a serious two-car collision on Grove Street Wednesday afternoon.
The crash involved a Hyundai SUV and a Jeep Wrangler and occurred after 1 p.m. near the former St. Peter-Marian high school.
Police say the operator of the Wrangler, a 48-year-old Worcester woman, was transported from the scene with life threatening injuries and died at the hospital.
The operator of the Hyundai was identified as a 29-year-old male of Rutland. He was rushed to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The passenger in his vehicle was identified as a 28-year-old female of Rutland. She was trapped in the vehicle and safely removed by Worcester Fire and Worcester EMS. She was rushed to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation shows the Wrangler was traveling southeast on Grove St. and the Hyundai was traveling northwest. The vehicles crashed head-on. Witnesses tell police the operator of the Wrangler was driving erratically before the crash.
Holden Police assisted with directing traffic around the crash scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
