WORCESTER, Mass. - After a year off, the Worcester Common Oval Ice Rink opened up in downtown Worcester Saturday afternoon.

Trax from the Worcester Railers was one of the first skaters.

Coronavirus concerns prevented the city from welcoming skaters in 2020.

The rink was scheduled to open on Friday, but due to the rain and weather conditions, the opening was pushed back a day.

Saturday was a perfect day for some outside skating as it was cold enough to keep the ice in good shape. Kids were happy to finally be back on the ice in Worcester.

"It's fun because not a lot of people get to even skate in their life," Kacey Moore said. "So I'm happy to have that privilege."

The 12,000 square foot rink will be open until Feb. 27.

Worcester will officially ring in the holiday season with the festival of lights Friday.
