WORCESTER, Mass. - Roughly 10,000 new recycling bins have been deployed over the last few weeks to homes in Worcester.
And the Worcester DPW still has about 10,000 more containers on hand to be delivered.
Neighborhoods with a Wednesday trash pick-up schedule are being prioritized for the new containers. These areas include downtown, Vernon Hill and parts of Grafton Hill and have a high concentration of multi-family homes and on-street parking.
City forces are working on the weekends to drop the new containers off.
The new containers are taller than the previous recycling bins and come with a removable cover.
In total, the city will order about 55,000 new bins, but due to a plastic resin shortage, there's currently no timetable as to when all city residents will receive a bin.
