WORCESTER, Mass. - After nearly six months since it was officially announced, the Monopoly: Worcester Edition was released to the public for purchase on Tuesday.

The Worcester Monopoly Edition launch party was held at Union Station and the businesses and local landmarks that received a spot on the game board.

City Manager Edward Augustus was joined by representatives from Top Trumps USA Inc. for the official launch.

"It really gives people, you know when they play this with their family and friends, it's going to provoke lots of stories and memories about the different iconic locations that are on the board," Augustus said at Tuesday's board unveiling. "It's just a sampling, a representation of the deep and rich and diverse set of cultural organizations, not for profits, businesses."

On the board are classic Worcester landmarks like the Burnside Fountain, Bancroft Tower, Union Station and Kelley Square, popular local businesses like Table Talk Pies and Worcester Wares, and museums and attractions such as EcoTarium, the Worcester Historical Museum and the American Antiquarian Society.

"Of course, super excited," said Worcester Wares owner, Jessica Walsh. "Worcester is very eclectic and I'm excited to be part of it."

Other locations in Worcester on the board include Shrewsbury Street, Salisbury Street and three Pow!Wow!Worcester artists have murals on the board. Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) has two spots on the board and has their logo on the Monopoly money. The board's "Chance" spots were taken by local nonprofits, including the Worcester County Food Bank, Worcester Animal Rescue League and Abby's House.

"So we hope when people are playing Monopoly, they'll stop on the Abby's House piece and recognize just how special the Worcester community is," said Abby's House executive director, Stephanie Page.

The center of the board is filled with images of Worcester, including City Hall, Shrewsbury Street, Union Station, a downtown skyline and more.
