WORCESTER, Mass. - The city of Worcester held a long-awaited groundbreaking at the Crompton Park Skateboard Park on Tuesday.
The accessible skate park, on the corner of Endicott Street and Quinsigamond Avenue, will feature a number of ramps, rails and stairs and two bowls.
The city is spending $2 million from its capital budget on the park.
Worcester DPW assistant commissioner Rob Antonelli says local skateboarders helped them design the project.
“So part of the process that we did to design this out was to get concepts form skateboarders and have a skateboard specific designer design this out and work exclusively with the skateboarders in and around Worcester to make sure this really met their needs and what they wanted,” Antonelli said.
City leaders expect the project to be complete by late summer of 2022. The city has invested $12 million on renovations at Crompton Park in recent years.
