A Central Massachusetts woman is thousands of dollars richer, thanks to Publishers Clearing House.

Lillian Trottier was surprised Tuesday afternoon with a $15,000 check. The company said it gives away thousands of dollars every week, and most people can use the money now more than ever.

Trottier had been applying for the sweepstakes but had no idea she won. She plans on using the money to buy a new heating system for her house and for Christmas presents.

“It’s a great job because everyone is happy to see us," Prize Patrol Member Howie Guja said. "We give away money, we are actually handing people checks and right now a lot of people could really use some money so it’s a very fun job.”

“It’s unbelievable, it’s an answered prayer.,” Trottier said. "I never thought I would win. I just don’t win things, until now."

Publishers Clearing House is also warning people to watch out for scams. It said the only way someone can actually win is if someone shows up at their door with a check, and the company will never call or email you.
