Nguyen received nearly 11% of the vote in the At-Large race and will be the city’s first non-binary councilor.
Nguyen says residents voted for a reflection of their community in the council.
“Worcester is in a place where they want to be reflected. You know, immigrants, refugees, communities of color, your BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) folk. I think it's time and I think people voted for that," Nguyen said.
Nguyen says they want the community to be able to have power within the city and help the council make decisions.
