Johnson said he is excited to bring a new voice and vision to the committee and hopes he can help inspire the younger generation.
"I had this conversation with my kids. I made history yesterday as the first black man ever elected to the Worcester school committee ever," Johnson said. "I think that is huge for our kids and shows they can reach anything they want. I am a city kid. I went to Worcester public schools, graduated from Worcester public schools and now, I'm sitting on the school committee."
Johnson said he is most looking forward to addressing the social and emotional needs of students in the Worcester school district.
