NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - A local middle school is certainly in the spirit of Halloween as students took to the school hallways.

Northbridge Middle School students took the last week to decorate their school for Halloween.

The students did the work in a half-hour time slot each day after homeroom.

The school mixed students in grades 6 to 8 into three sections and judges stopped by the school on Friday to determine a winner.

School principal John Diorio says while the students were competing against one another, the activity actually brought out a sense of community.

“So we were looking for a way to bring our kids together as a community. And I think you can see it when you walk around our halls, that I think we were successful,” Diorio said. “I’ve never seen the kids have so much fun. The teachers got involved. What started as a small little project, turned into this huge big production.”

“To see the kids, smiling and laughing and having fun, and really just being kids again, it was amazing,” he added.

Diorio says this was the first time the school has decorated like this for Halloween but plans to do events like this in the future.
