MASS. - Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito addressed the ongoing feud involving the Massachusetts State Police and the state's vaccine mandate while in Worcester Monday morning.

Governor Charlie Baker's mandate is now in effect, requiring all state employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The deadline to get the vaccine passed, but the union representing the troopers said, while 85% of the department has been vaccinated, troopers who have not received the shot have been denied other alternatives like mask wearing or weekly testing.

Lt. Gov. Polito said there's a process to get things sorted out and assures the public they should have no concerns over their safety.

"There's a process involved with submitting an exemption. There are staff that is reviewing these exemptions and will make decisions relevant to those requests in the upcoming weeks," Polito said. "We feel that we can support the safety of this Commonwealth, including a graduation class that just last week we swore in to serve us here in the Commonwealth."

The union said its been seven days since the deadline to get vaccinated and members haven't heard anything from the Baker administration.
