WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross students have created a new art installment inspired by the city of Worcester.

Juniors Christian Bachez and Andrew Toth created the "Who is Worcester" piece. The public art project is funded in part by the Weiss Summer Research Program and the Ignite Fund.

The art features different places across the city, as well as people in Worcester working in healthcare, doing community oriented work, people who give their lives to a certain cause through their activism and those involved in the beautification and aesthetics in the city.

The students shared their inspiration and goal for the art work.

"Inspiration started back during COVID in 2020 when I was stuck in New York City where I am originally from," Bachez said. "I would just walk around the street looking at street art and most notably like "Captain Eyeliner," "Stack 6" and "Slew" are like my main inspirations for the piece. I kind of wanted to bring that back to Worcester. Someone told us that the piece felt like a love letter to the city, which I think it is a beautiful way of putting it."

"We know that Holy Cross students are very involved volunteer wise, but we want them to get more involved socially and culturally," Toth added. "I think it also encompasses more than that, like other colleges, whether it be Clark or WPI, as well."

Bachez and Toth have also created a fund at the Greater Worcester Community Foundation to donate to nine Worcester organizations they found to have an incredible impact in the city.

The piece is currently on display at ArtsWorcester. Gallery hours are Thursdays to Sundays from 12  p.m. to 5 p.m.
