WORCESTER, Mass. - The Nativity School in Worcester has received its largest gift since it's inception 18 years ago.
The gift will help to continue their mission of educating under-resourced communities. The tuition-free school is solely funded through contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
School President, Tom McKenney, says the $1.8 million gift from the late Catherine Butler, a long-time supporter and contributor to the school, will strengthen the educational experience and impact at the school. He says the school offers a personalized learning environment with small class sizes, an extended school day, and a summer session for all students. The money will help to expand the many programs they offer.
"It will allow us to advance some of our academic programing," McKenney said. "It will provide new opportunities for staff and faculty for professional development and really just overall allow us to improve the education we provide at Nativity Worcester."
McKenney says while they serve grades 5 through 8, they make a 12-year commitment to their students. They follow them through high school, college and into the work force through their graduate support program.
