WORCESTER, Mass. - The Christopher Columbus statue outside of Union Station in Worcester was vandalized again overnight.

The statue, which faces the Washington Square rotary, was covered in red paint for the second time since June 2020.

Worcester DPW workers were on scene Wednesday morning around 10 a.m. to power wash the paint off the statue.

In July 2020, calls were made for the removal of the Columbus statue after the statue was vandalized with red paint and word "genocide" spray-painted on it for Columbus’ treatment and colonization of Native Americans..

The statue was dedicated in the late 1970s.
