WORCESTER, Mass. - After nearly 75 years in business, a Worcester landmark is closing.
Maury's Deli in Webster Square has been open for 74 years. The Main Street deli and sandwich shop is famous in the city for its pastrami and corned beef grinders.
The deli is owned by the Lawrence family.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, a member of the Lawrence family wrote, “If you would like to get your pastrami, corned beef and roast beef before we close, your time is coming to an end. We would like to thank you for your support and business over the years.”
Some customers were told Thursday the deli's lease price was being raised, and it's a big reason for the closing.
Maury’s is located at 1125 Main Street. The business is for sale, but will close its doors on Saturday, Oct. 16. The property is two floors and 5,200 square feet. There are 14 parking spaces in the lot next to the deli.
