MASS. - As last Halloween left many trick-or-treaters without a pillowcase full of candy, a survey determined that Massachusetts households should have Sour Patch Kids ready at the door.

According to Candystore.com, the most popular type of Halloween candy are Sour Patch Kids. The runner-up favorites are Butterfinger and Duble Bubble gum.

The data was formulated by Google Trends and was placed on a map to reveal what candy each state loves the most. Data from the past 14 years (2007-2021) helps evaluate the candy sales in the weeks leading up to Halloween.

While many trick-or-treaters did not walk up to houses last Halloween due to the pandemic, the National Retail Federation says that candy sales should increase this year by $600 million to hit $3 billion. Halloween spending sales are expected to reach $10.14 billion this year.

Sour Patch Kids found itself as the favorite in five additional states this year. See other state’s favorite Halloween candies at CandyStore.com
