WORCESTER, Mass. - As the Worcester Red Sox wrap up their final homestand of their inaugural season, club executives say attendance this season has been above expectations.
With four home games left in the 2021 season, the WooSox right now are ranked tenth out of 120 minor league baseball teams across the country in attendance.
Research done by the teams shows that fans are entering Polar Park from all over New England. Team President Dr. Charles Steinberg says that the fans of the Worcester Red Sox are providing a great atmosphere for both the WooSox and the visiting teams.
"I think that the atmosphere that's created by the fans filling this ballpark day in and day out, sunny days, rainy days, it's having an effect not only on the WooSox players, but the visiting players are talking about it, too,” Dr. Steinberg said. “They're not seeing an atmosphere this festive, with fans this knowledgeable all over Minor League Baseball. We have something special going on here."
Despite capacity limitations for the first month of the season the WooSox enter the final weekend of the home schedule averaging just under 6,000 fans per game.
The WooSox host the Rochester Red Wings Thursday to Sunday.
