WORCESTER, Mass. -- Construction on the Crompton Park Skatepark is set to start in next few weeks, according to the city of Worcester.
The project hit a bit of a slowdown because of COVID-19 restrictions, but it seems to be back on track.
The city chose a preferred contractor who will work with a skatepark specific subcontractor.
To avoid any issues with the foundation, a majority of the skatepark components will be installed in the spring.
Robert Antonelli, Jr., assistant commissioner of Worcester’s parks and recreation department, still has their sights set on a 2022 late summer opening.
“You know, weather will be the determining factor. If we have a decent winter we can start a little earlier. That may shave some time off on it. If we don't get a lot of rain. All of those functionalities do play into it,” Antonelli said. “But we're looking at mid to late summer of (2022) for an opening."
Antonelli says the city is happy with the price they landed on for the project and they’re reading to get construction going.
The skatepark will be located at the corner of Quinsigamond Avenue and Endicott Street behind the park's softball diamond.
Plans for the skatepark include ramps, corner whips, a raised deck, beginner drop-ins, stairs will rails, a bowl and more.
