The Seven Hills Shamrocks flag football team had their final practice ahead of their first game of the season.
The flag football team is part of the Special Olympics of Massachusetts. Sunday, the team was out at Holmes Field in Worcester running drills, conditioning exercises and learning how to be good teammates. Eleven players and four partners make up the team. They were unable to play any games last year as a result of the pandemic. Volunteer Coach Tyrone Hicks said everyone's glad to be back on the field again.
"Oh, it has been great," Hicks said. "I really enjoy it. It's my new passion. I have a ball with the kids. We're a great bunch of kids together. It's a great mix. My true thing is to try and get them together to make sure they become like a family, and everybody understands what they're supposed to do and we just get it done."
The Shamrocks will play their first game of the season next Sunday at Worcester State University. The state tournament for the league this year will take place at Gillette Stadium.
