WORCESTER, Mass. - An emotional ceremony Sunday evening honoring the 13 U.S. service members who lost their lives in Afghanistan last month.

A large crowd gathered at the Marine Corps League in Worcester on the shores of Lake Quinsigamond for a candlelight vigil. People gathered to pay their respects to the 11 marines, one Army soldier, and one Navy sailor who were killed in an attack outside of the Kabul airport.

The ceremony included a benediction, a gun salute, the playing of the bagpipes, and the reading of the names of the fallen service members. Richard Duffy, Commander of the honor guard for the Marine Corp League of Worcester says they want to make sure their sacrifice is never forgotten.

Duffy says something so important to remember is most of the service members who were killed were in their early 20s.

A wreath was also laid, adorned with 13 American flags.
