LUDLOW, Mass. — It’s a Labor Day weekend tradition in Ludlow. For the 73rd year, people from all over came to celebrate Festa.

Bianca Fernandes lived in Ludlow for ten years and came back from Florida.

"I came to visit by grandparents and come to the Festa,” Fernandes said. "I like to come see my friends and the rides."

What You Need To Know

  • Festa has been around for 73 years

  • People can enjoy food, music and dancing

  • People from across the country come to celebrate

There's a lot to do, but there is also a lot of Portuguese culture to learn and enjoy.

Joey Batista, owner of Joey Bats Cafe in lower Manhattan, comes every year to share some of his history with people attending Festa.

"We have had a lot of success down there and so I always have to come back to my hometown for the festival for sure,” he said.

He and his mom shared an original Portuguese tart.

"It's called pasteis de nata. It tastes a lot like a warm creme brulee wrapped in a flaky croissant,” said Batista.

Festa takes place over the course of a few days, giving people the chance to learn about and celebrate all things Portuguese at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. And for people like Joey, it's a chance to come home and enjoy a special experience near and dear to his heart.

"It's important because my family is here and it is a little Portugal in the U.S. You don't have that everywhere, so I like to get back and experience it. It's also like a reunion with my friends, so it's a good time,” said Batista.

September 6 was the final day of Festa.
