WORCESTER, Mass. - Eight people were arrested in connection to ongoing complaints of people trespassing at the Providence and Worcester rail yard.

Worcester police say there were 15 to 20 people on dirt bikes, ATVs and scooters riding through the railroad property on Sunday afternoon.

Officers with Worcester police, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and Millbury police set up a perimeter around the area to stop the drivers. And while many escaped, eight were arrested and are facing several charges.

Worcester police spokesperson, Lt. Sean Murtha, says it's been a problem for a long time.

“It’s been a problem for the last few years. The last three or four years we've had people assigned to this team,” Lt. Murtha said. "A couple officers go out in plain clothes. This is what they do. It's been very effective. They've gotten over 400 bikes and ATVs that were illegally operated.”

Officers seized five dirt bikes, towed two motor vehicles and recovered three firearms.
