WORCESTER, Mass. - Cities and towns across the state are dealing with the extreme heat which will be around for the next few days.
In Worcester, the Senior Center, Library, and Net of Compassion are open as cooling centers. Three of the city's beaches and the pool at Crompton Park are also open.
Health and Human Services commissioner Dr Matilde Castiel says the Quality of Life Task Force is also out making sure the city's homeless population is staying cool.
“One of the things we do is we have a homeless outreach out of the (Health and Human Services) department. We go out. We're giving out water,” Dr. Castiel said. Right now, they're working with Net of Compassion at their cooling site to assist the people that are there."
Dr. Castiel is reminding people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in cool places, and wear lightweight clothing.
Meanwhile, Worcester's Bell Pond Beach remains closed, due to what the City calls a staffing issue. A lifeguard was stabbed there on July 4.
A police officer was on patrol at the beach on Wednesday afternoon.
