Massachusetts reported a slight rise in first-time unemployment claims last week. At the Masshire Central Career Center, they said there is a huge demand on the employer side.
Businesses are reaching out for help recruiting new employees. But, a lot of people looking for jobs want higher pay or at least to make more than they do on unemployment.
The center said one of the reasons it's been hard for businesses to fill jobs is because a lot of people are taking this time to reassess their careers.
"We have a lot more employers with needs" said Jibrael Younis, operations manager at the career center. "A lot of people are interested in training programs and training opportunities."
The career center said there's a big demand for entry level positions in retail and in food service. They are holding a virtual job fair with other centers statewide between August 16 and the 20. It will feature more than 500 employers.
