Saturday was the last antique flea market of the year at Brookfield Orchards.

People from surrounding towns were able to sell some of the old items from their homes. Vintage clothes, coins, housewares, and toys were some of the popular items for sale.

The flea market did not happen in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers say they were looking for something fun to do while bringing together people in the area.

"Years and years ago, we're talking decades or longer, talking maybe two decades or longer, we used to do flea markets only on Sundays," said Brookfield Orchards Store Manager Diana Nydam. "Or we would have booths that were permanent all throughout the summer season. That slowly died out, but the way things are going now, people are going to flea markets. People are going to consignment shows. People are learning to do it yourself crafts. I mean, who doesn't like to clean their house out and try to make a little bit of money on the side. So, we were just looking for fun things to do that people would like to join us. Having a flea market, we have the area. It was just a really great idea. Very easy to organize and of course, we have a lot of people who are ready and willing to join us."

The event also served as a fundraiser for the Be Like Brit Foundation. Items like hygiene products, canned goods, and medical supplies were collected, as well as monetary donations. The nonprofit built an orphanage in Haiti and now takes care of 66 children.
