BOYLSTON, Mass. - A new box outside of Rocky Pond in Boylston is filled with items which could help save lives.

A group of friends installed "Manny's Box" in honor of Worcester Police Officer Enmanuel Familia and Troy Love.

Officer Familia died last month while trying to rescue Love who was drowning. Love also passed away.

The box includes life jackets and a buoy ring with floating rope.

"Bell Pond, a lot of kids used to go swimming there when it got real hot and they would jump off the other side of the beach and they would drown, growing up," said Frank Lapriore, a West Boylston resident. "So I said it's just unfortunate that there's nothing there to give an extra 10 minutes so the right first responders would get there. We came up with this idea here."

"You can throw the rope out, wear a life jacket out," said Tara Caramanica, a Boylston resident. "We also want people to feel comfortable if they need to wear something. If they forgot their life jacket they can certainly come and borrow one and then return it."

The group plans on adding more boxes in the area next week.
