WORCESTER, Mass. - June was hot and sunny, and some parts of the state even experienced a heat wave. But, July’s weather so far is a lot different.
Meteorologist Zach Green says we’re seeing an unusual weather pattern. He says over the first two weeks, it's already the third wettest July on record in terms of rainfall in Worcester.
And there is still half the month left to break the record.
Green says there's a reason we aren't seeing the weather we are typically do this time of year.
"Normally the Bermuda high dominates our weather in July, giving us that hot and humid weather we usually get in the summer time, but that has been off shore and so we have a big mix of air masses right now and the storm track happens to be right through southern New England," said Green. "So every time we think we are going to get a break with some dry weather, another storm system seems to be right on its way."
Green says while it is unusual, the area experienced a similar pattern in 2009 and this seems to happen about once a decade. He says if the Bermuda high can back a little bit further to the East Coast and lift a little further north, we will get back to the hot and humid weather.
