BRIMFIELD, Mass. - People from all over are filling the streets of Brimfield for America's oldest outdoor antique flea market.

Chris Monahan and Jim Baker, friends of over 30 years, came from Albany, N.Y. It was Baker's second time attending the Brimfield Antique Flea Market and Monahan's first.

"This is my first day and I am telling you I am like a deer in headlights," Monahan said. "This is amazing."

Like Monahan, there was some other first timers. Oliver Campbell, a 10-year-old from Smithsfield, R.I. came with his family.

"Usually my dad and grandpa come out here, but my dad was telling me about it last night, so I wanted to come and see what it was all about," said Campbell.

Others in attendance have been coming for decades, like Patricia Snyder from Sparta, N.J.

"Many, many years. Close to 30 years," said Snyder.

Crowds of people were walking down the mile-long stretch of markets and browsed fields with different items.

"I love coming out here," said Harvey Sirota of Brooklyn, N.Y. "You can see A toZ. Whatever you are looking for, whatever you're not looking for, you could be taking it home. Bring money. Bring checks."

Last year's shows were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. When it first returned in May, it was limited to one field. So this time around people were especially happy to be back.

"It is wonderful just to be amongst people again, pick up things, touch them," Snyder said. "The internet is great, but it is just great to be out here with everyone who has everything you can think of."

Monahan, Baker, and other flea market-goers said they will be back again next time around.

The event is going on rain or shine through Sunday at 3 p.m.
