CHICOPEE, Mass. - Employers across the country are facing a similar challenge, getting people to come back to work. Balance Staffing, a supplemental staffing service, is looking to fill jobs from Lee all the way to Salem, N.H.

"We put people to work. Anything from people sweeping floors, loading trucks, to (human resources) people," said Lorie Miller, owner of Balance Staffing. "We match talent with opportunity, that is what we are."

Smores, hotdogs and popcorn were just a few ways the company was hoping to attract people on a rainy Friday for a job fair in Chicopee.

"Basically what we are trying to do is attract any candidate we can," Miller said. "As we know, the world is in a staffing shortage at the moment."

MassHire's JobQuest website lists more than 211,000 job openings across the state and at Balance Staffing, they're looking for fork lift operators, pickers, truck loaders, and a variety of other positions.

"The business here is a freight company," said Miller. "It's transportation for a very large retail market. Unfortunately, I cannot expel what that would be, but it is all high-end retail merchandise coming through here."

There are currently 140 people working at the transportation company, but they have 120 more positions they are trying to fill before the holiday season.

"We have a busy season coming up here. It's the holiday season we start kicking into. So we need to load this building," Miller said. "We need people and we are doing anything we can to attract people to get in here and go to work."
