SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Home Again, the thrift store at Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, is officially re-open after they closed last March during the pandemic.

When the thrift shop closed, they started selling on an Ebay site, but they missed out on a significant amount of revenue the store makes from in-person shopping.

Prior to the pandemic, Dakin's thrift store was pulling in between $60,000 and $75,000 a year. The money made here goes to Dakin programs, like their pet food bank, and clinics for vaccines and preventative care. It also helps cover the cost of the pets in their shelter.

The thrift shop is helped by donated goods and by volunteers and has both items for people and for pets.

"We have so many great pet items because sometimes when folks come here to adopt, they are all excited about their new kitty that they are getting, they are not thinking about a carrier, or pet food bowls, or a cat bed or things like that. We sell to folks so often who come here and completely forgot about those things," said Lee Chambers, Dakin's media relations and development specialist.

"It is one stop shopping," Chambers said. "You get your pet and you can get a variety of items you need to take care of them."

The thrift shop is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
