CHICOPEE, Mass. - The season never stops for the Boston Bolts U15 West Elite Black soccer team.
"We train a lot. A lot of the boys are busy doing other sports, but we try and make this our main focus to come out here every day and make this our main focus," said the team's goalie, 15-year-old Luke Theroux of Chicopee.
The team will be traveling to Colorado to compete in a national championship tournament.
"We've had other years where we have been close, but we have never gotten to this stage," said Colin Scammon, 16, of Chicopee. "It is just amazing to see that we all just came together."
"To be able to have this opportunity finally is amazing," said 16-year-old Tristan Hogan of Somers, Conn.
Practice makes perfect and they’re doing all they can to prepare.
"Everyone comes here committed to 9 a.m. practices, and it is a tough thing in this heat, said 15-year-old Adam Stetson of Chicopee. "But the fact that we have so many guys show up today shows how committed we are to win this in Colorado."
The bond between these guys takes place on and off the field.
"As a family we have been through a lot together," Scammon said. "Seeing each other at our downfalls, at our ups. We have played rough games, good games."
They are ready to see their hard work pay off as they have the opportunity to take their skills to another level, at another field, with another goal.
"No matter where I am playing, I am going to try my hardest and help the team any way I can," said Jack Holt, 16, of Belchertown. "At the end of the day, when we get to these tournaments, it's a huge reward to sit back and relax and see what we did all season."
"We put in the heart, sweat, tears, blood," Theroux said. "It just means a lot going out in tournaments, winning, having a fun time."
The National Cup Finals will take place July 16 to 18 in Commerce City, Colo. Semifinals are on July 19 and finals on July 20. The team is coached by Billy Stetson and Dave Girouard, both of Chicopee.
