WORCESTER, Mass. - The community has rallied around a local little league who’s snack shack was vandalized last week.

The Lou Gehrig little league at Worcester's Vernon Hill park was ransacked last Monday, with food, equipment, and trophies getting damaged and stolen.

A GoFundMe has been established and has raised over $3,500.

On Monday, volunteers for the league were back at the snack shack using the donated funds to replenish the damaged and stolen goods.

This isn’t the first time the shack has been broken into, with some saying it’s become a yearly occurrence. But this time, volunteers say it’s different and would have been difficult for the small league to replace everything because they didn’t budget for

"Normally, we just pick up the pieces and drive on, contact the City, redo the locks and drive on with our mission, but this time it hit home for people and parents started making some noise and obviously you know everyone's been involved and with that involvement, comes change,” said league president Jeff Sonnenberg.

“We are getting the resources and everything we need to make it better up here so it's going to be great. It's pretty overwhelming to see everybody helping us out, and see the GoFundMe page and donations coming in and really, like I said, everyone rallying around us and helping us out to get through this difficult time is really great,” Sonnenberg added.

The Worcester Red Sox also stopped by, donating a large variety of food and snacks. The team also handed out hats to the little league players.
