WORCESTER, Mass. - The world’s most popular family game is getting a localized Worcester version and its creators have received thousands of recommendations from people in and around Central Massachusetts as to what city landmarks they want to see on the gameboard.
“MONOPOLY: The Worcester edition” is being created and manufactured by Top Trumps USA Inc. under license from Hasbro, the official owner of the MONOPOLY game and brand.
Top Trumps USA asked for submissions earlier this month to fill the 34 spaces on the MONOPOLY board game. The deadline to submit ideas was June 25.
In less than two weeks, Top Trumps USA says they received 60,000 email submissions.
“We wanted those who know Worcester best to get involved and send us their recommendations for the official Monopoly edition, and you delivered,” said Top Trumps USA Inc. Partnerships Manager, Afolabi Omotola, in a statement released to Spectrum News 1.
Omotola highlighted the efforts at Ralph's Tavern on Shrewsbury Street last week accepting Monopoly money for a happy hour event, as well as the numerous businesses in the area that rallied their followers on social media.
Between now and the game’s release, Omotola says there will be opportunities for community members to get involved in the creation of the game.
The game will also include customized “Community Chest” and “Chance” playing cards, making the entire game truly a Worcester experience.
The new MONOPOLY: Worcester edition game will be available online and with local retailers across the region in November.
