WORCESTER, Mass. - Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy is honored again in Worcester on Friday.
The City held a ribbon cutting at the renovated basketball courts at Crompton Park which are named after Cousy. The court was originally dedicated to the Holy Cross star in 1964.
It's one of the many courts in the city where he used to play pickup games and practice. The renovations, which included adding another court, are part of a $400,000 state grant.
City Manager Ed Augustus said the city has spent $75 million over the last seven years improving parks around the city.
“It is so important we continue as we’re rebuilding downtown and we built Polar Park that we’re not forgetting our public parks and our recreational spaces, particularly in neighborhoods that need the spaces,” Augustus said.
“My hope is that this event today will create opportunities for many young people, guys and gals, to look back and fondly remember their time spent and positive interactions that hopefully they landed at Cousy park,” said Cousy.
Cousy was honored last week when the City unveiled a statue of him outside of the DCU Center.
