CHICOPEE, Mass. - Pete's Sweets, a bakery in East Longmeadow, is raising money for local organizations with cupcake sales.

The cupcakes are made to honor Chicopee Police Officer Angela Santiago, who was killed in an off-duty motorcycle crash last year.

Pete's Sweets designed a cupcake in her honor and staff are donating a portion of the proceeds to Mutt Rescue of Chicopee and the Great Dog Rescue of New England, in Santiago's name. Both of the causes were important to Santiago.

Last year, after Santiago's passing, Pete's Sweets did the same fundraiser and sold just under 1,000 cupcakes. They donated the money to the Boys & Girls Club, where Santiago was very involved. They are hoping this year to exceed 1,000 cupcakes.

"We did them around (Santiago's) police colors and badge number, so they really represented her and so we can give back to the community the same way she did all those years," said Danielle Maheau, Pete's Sweets head cake decorator.

"It's tough because we are a celebration business," said Peter Gray, owner of Pete's Sweets. "This isnt quite a celebration. We didn't know how to honor her in the right way. We knew she loved cupcakes and would have loved donating a portion of the proceeds to two animal rescues."

The fundraiser ends June 19.
